Nyungwe National Park is a pristine and biodiverse protected area located in southwestern Rwanda, spanning an area of approximately 1,019 square kilometres. Established in 2004, the park is renowned for its ancient montane rainforests, towering canopy trees, and rich biodiversity. Nyungwe is one of the oldest forests in Africa, dating back to the prehistoric era, and is considered a vital hotspot for conservation due to its unique ecosystems and endemic species

The park’s landscape is characterized by rugged terrain, deep valleys, and steep slopes, with elevations ranging from 1,600 to 2,950 meters above sea level. Nyungwe is home to over 13 different primate species, including chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys, making it one of the most diverse primate habitats in East Africa.
