TRANSIT PASSENGER MINI SAFARI NAIROBI
You can be a transit tourist if you have more than 5 hrs waiting time at the airport. Come out of the airport with a transit visa and visit the Nairobi national park and return in time to check in for your connecting flight. Nairobi National Park is the only park within a capital city in the entire world. The park has a diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded and four of the “Big Five” can also be seen here.
One of the best way for a transit passenger to pass time at the JKIA airport in Nairobi is to a have a mini safari in Nairobi National Park. It is a short drive from the airport and boost of being the only wildlife national park in the world within a capital city. The park is made of wide open grass plains, scattered acacia bush and play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. All this in the backdrop of the city scrapers.

Duration
The mini safari will last between 2hrs and 3hrs at the park. The timings can also be fine tuned according to a travelers need.
Transport
Pick up will be at the airport and drop off back at the airport. Safari vehicle type can either be 4×4 land cruiser or a safari minivan. This will depend with the travelers budget. The cost given is for a safari van or Jeep.
Mini safari Itinerary
You will be picked from the airport and driven to Nariobi National Park through the east gate. Upon entry the tour can start with a visit to the ivory burning site where elephant tusks and rhino horns have been torched by Kenyan presidents to show the country’s commitment to stop poaching. You will also be driven around in search of the parks diverse wildlife. In the course of the game drive, you will visit one of the several picnic sites to have a short break.
In case you have more time and at extra cost, there is an optional visit to the Nairobi Animal Orphanage which is located in the Nairobi National Park. It serves as treatments and rehabilitation center for wild animals. The Nairobi animal orphanage hosts lions, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, serval cats, rare Sokoke cats, warthogs, leopards, various monkeys, baboons and buffalo. Various birds can also be found in the orphanage including parrots, guinea fowls, crowned cranes and ostriches.
Another optional place to visit is the safari walk which is another attraction in Nairobi National Park. It is made up of raised wooded boardwalk that allows viewing of wildlife housed in the area. Visitors can view wildlife which they expect to see in Kenya’s game parks. It has a rich species of local trees.
After the tour, you will be taken back to the airport.
